This $5bn new mining venture will construct a mine, pellet plant, port and associated power station, desalination plant and townships in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Meta Management is working with the management team to devise Operations and Maintenance strategies, design organization structures, and to establish management processes and reporting systems. Since 2003 the ANTCER venture has collaborated with the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) to implement a career development strategy to attract and retain employees for the oil and gas industry. This work included researching staffing issues, mapping career paths, devising an organisation development framework and producing a series of Career Guides, Coaches Handbooks and Coach the Coach Training sessions.
ANTCER is now taking a lead role in the implementation of a national network of Induction Centres and in the provision of an Induction Card and web based system to record training records and qualifications. Induction Centres Australia (ICA) has been formed to deliver a standard induction through a national network of training centres. The construction of the first centre in Perth has been sponsored by Woodside, Alcoa, BHP Billiton, BP, Caltex, CSBP, Mobil and Shell.
To support the induction centre network ANTCER has designed, built and implemented a web based Competency Register and photo Induction Card system to capture and display induction training records. This ANTCER Competency Register provides a secure storage and convenient presentation of verified records of an individual's qualifications, licences, and inductions via a secure internet portal.
ANTCER operated the Competency Register system for the initial trials and the first three months of the center operation, issuing ID cards and capturing over 300 training records. ICA has now transferred operation of the centre to IFAP who are now responsible for marketing and delivering courses.

Investment, Projects, and Employment Research
– Seven Multinational Resource Companies
Argus Research was commissioned by Alcoa, BHP Billiton, Bluescope Steel, Chevron, Iluka, Newmont, Woodside and Xstrata to undertake a national study of investment intentions and development projects to forecast construction activity, employment demand and labour availability from 2005 to 2010. The research involved contacting over 100 project sponsors, interview 60 project managers and surveying contractors, recruiters and labour hire companies. Workforce numbers were determined, employment demand forecasted and future investment scenarios developed. The study, for the first time provided comprehensive, accurate and timely data to support project planning decisions.
Construction Activity and Labour Market Research - Multi-National Metal & Mining Company
This leading company is considering multi billion dollar investment so needed to know the level of construction activity, projects which would compete for resources, and where to target recruitment of it's workforce. Argus undertook in-depth analysis of building and construction programs across Australia,; assisting in profiling labour needs; and then conducted extensive mapping of location and characteristics of labour pools. Argus identified construction schedule window and recruitment locations and provide recommendations to overcome resource constraints and skill shortages.
Argus Research will now continue to grow into a successful independent business.

META MANAGEMENT CONSULTING
Meta Management works closely with managers, executives and directors to devise plans, resolve issues, and implement changes to grow successful businesses. Recent assignments include the following;
Business Planning and Customer Relationship Management - Energy Utility
This major utility is facing increased competition, market deregulation and internal structuring. Meta Management researched the governments' reform agenda, facilitated planning sessions, devised action plans and then compiled implementation schedules. Working with the sales division market opportunities were identified and new product offering outlined. Work with the customer service division focused on relationship management, information system improvements and call centre restructuring. With these plans in place the company is better equipped to succeed in an increasingly competitive market.
Organisation Design for Shared Services - National Marketing Division
This marketing division needed to achieve closer alignment with national buying groups, to rationalise internal organisation, and to prepare for the introduction of a wide range of ecommerce technologies. Meta Management was engaged to evaluate organisation structures, assess current workloads, propose design options, plan restructuring activities and then facilitate the communication releases and the management of change. The project reorganised support groups, transformed the customer call centre and established an electronic commerce group. The Meta Management's work included planning staff redeployment and assisting with the recruitment of new managers. The result is a more efficient and focused organisation based on multi-skilled teams with appropriate staffing levels, defined roles and agreed responsibilities.

META MANAGEMENT TEAMBUILDING
Meta Management believes that growing successful businesses requires a balanced management team with complimentary skills, compatible personalities, a common view of the business and shared aspirations. The recent focus has been advising on corporate governance and risk management.
Good Corporate Governance - Board Roles and Responsibilities
Meta Management was engaged by the State's Training Board to deliver seminars to board members and executive officers of 14 Industry Training Advisory Boards. The focus was on governance principles, regulatory compliance for incorporated associations, non executive directors' roles and effective board planning and procedures. Participants were coached on planning a good corporate governance framework for their boards by defining directors' accountabilities, management roles, and establishing board protocols and operating procedures.
Risk Analysis and Management - International Engineers and Project Managers
This fast growing company recognised the need for good corporate governance and effective risk management. Meta Management was assigned to undertake a review of four current projects and then proposed a sound risk management framework. The recommendation included checkpoints in management processes, checklists to identify risks, tools to access probabilities and improvements to tracking and reporting systems. Once implemented, these recommendations will help ensure the continued growth, profitability and sustainability of the business.
